Watson Clinic’s urology team offers the latest treatments for conditions such as urinary incontinence, prostate cancer, kidney stones, and erectile dysfunction, just to name a few.
Urinary Incontinence
Recent advancements in bladder treatment technologies have made it possible to control or completely reverse the adverse effects of urinary and fecal incontinence disorders. The respected team of gynecologists and urologists are working together to treat - and often times cure - these disorders, eliminating the embarrassment that reduces quality of life and often hinders someone from seeking medical assistance.
Prostate Cancer
Aside from skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer afflicting men in the United States, and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in these men. In light of these statistics, early detection should function as an imperative step in containing and treating the disease, but available screening tools often result in misdiagnosis and overtreatment. Now, Watson Clinic’s experienced urologists are pleased to utilize a powerful new tool in the fight against prostate cancer, which will decrease incidents of unnecessarily invasive biopsy and treatment. UroNav is an innovative and highly effective fusion of magnetic resonance (MRI) and ultrasound imaging. When the images produced by these systems are merged, they create a 3D view of suspect lesions.
BPH
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, generally affects men older than 50. Symptoms include a frequent, urgent need to urinate, especially at night, trouble urinating, a weak stream of urine, feeling that you still need to go after urinating, problems with leaking and dribbling, and small amounts of blood in your urine. To determine if you have BPH, your urologist may perform a digital rectal exam, measure urine flow, or order a blood test or x-ray. BPH may be treated through surgical or non-surgical means, or even through simple medications.
Watson Clinic urologists offer the
UroLift® System as a treatment option for men looking for relief from BPH symptoms. It does not require ongoing medication, heating, cutting or removal of prostate tissue, and the UroLift
® System treatment typically takes less than one hour to perform. The UroLift
® System is the only BPH procedure shown not to cause new and lasting erectile or ejaculatory dysfunction, while being a safe and effective treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH.
Dr. Mark Swierzewski is the only specialists in Lakeland to be designated a UroLift
® Center of Excellence due to his expertise in performing the procedure.
Urologic Oncology
Urologic oncology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, including cancers of the kidney, renal pelvis, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra, penis, and adrenal glands.
With the exception of skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer found among men in the United States. As prostate cancer is typically slow growing, treatment yields a high cure rate, particularly when detected at an early stage.
Patients will require a thorough examination to determine if prostate cancer is present, as the symptoms of the disease are similar in nature to BPH or prostatitis (swelling or infection of the prostate). These symptoms may include difficult or painful urination, erectile dysfunction, and frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips and upper thighs. Some patients exhibit no symptoms at all.
Screening for prostate cancer are recommended to begin at the age of 50, or even earlier for higher risk patients, including African American men and those with a family history of the disease. PSA tests and digital rectal exams are common procedures used to detect the presence of prostate cancer.
Watson Clinic utilizes the latest technological and treatment advances, including minimally invasive surgical methods, when treating urologic cancers.
Erectile Dysfunction
Impotence or erectile dysfunction (E.D.) is a very common medical condition that affects tens of millions of men in the U.S. There are a number of factors that can cause this condition such as low levels of testosterone, diabetes or heart disease. Urologists offer various treatment options dependent on their patient’s personal situation, such as medications, testosterone replacement therapy, injections and more.
