Watson Clinic Women’s Center registered nurse practitioner Nichole Murphy, APRN was recently named among the first 200 Advanced Practice Providers in the country to receive the APP Breast Disease Certification, a distinction that recognizes a high level of competency in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease.
This new certification is awarded by the American Society of Breast Surgeons following an intensive seven-month program which features the study of topics as varied as risk assessment and genetics, breast imaging and pathology, oncoplastic breast surgery, anesthesia and pain management, medical oncology, radiation oncology, survivorship, palliative care, ethics and professionalism, and clinical trials. Ms. Murphy received the certification following a final certification exam at the conclusion of the rigorous training sessions.
Ms. Murphy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Polk State College in Winter Haven, FL, and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Polk County Advanced Practice Nurses Association, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing, Theta Epsilon. Ms. Murphy works alongside board-certified Breast Surgeon Elisabeth L. Dupont, MD from the Watson Clinic Women’s Center at 1400 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland.
