Watson Clinic offers comprehensive rehabilitation services from a multitude of providers who specialize in physical and occupational therapy.
In addition to treating an array of orthopaedic, sports-related, and neurologic injuries, our expert care team members hold advanced certifications in orthopaedics, hand therapy, lymphedema (fluid retention), manual therapy, vestibular rehabilitation and the treatment of Parkinson's-related movement disorders.
Our outreach programs include orthopaedic screenings as part of high school and collegiate physicals.
Physical Therapy
Physical Therapists are experienced in areas such as orthopaedics, neurology, hand therapy and lymphedema management. The Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine facility at our Highlands location also offers some of the most advanced rehabilitation technologies in the field, including the Anti-Gravity Treadmill®.
The licensed and board-certified therapists can assist you when:
- You have joint sprains, muscle strains, recovering from fractures or post operative procedures, or to avoid surgery altogether by restoring joint mobility and muscle strength.
- Your neck or back hurts from a variety of causes such as trauma, posture and poor work station ergonomics.
- You struggle to maintain balance for standing or walking, dizziness, or have had falls all resulting in loss functional mobility and independence.
- You have extremity and trunk lymphedema (swelling) that limits mobility.
- You have problems performing daily activities or exercise due to being deconditioned, medical ailments, strokes, accidents or injuries.
Fortunately, these and other issues can be addressed and corrected with physical therapy (PT).
A physical therapy regimen will include a variety of customized treatment options that work to maximize a patient’s return to functional and recreational activities.
Occupational Therapy
Living with a disability is never easy. And returning to life after an illness or injury can be a struggle. Physical limitations, pain and required changes in daily routines are just some of the things that might make it hard for people to do the tasks they need—and want—to do.
Occupational therapy (OT) can help both children and adults address these challenges and lead a more fulfilling life. And our OT department has an excellent track record of doing both.
Our therapists work with patients of all ages who face many different kinds of medical challenges that can affect their physical, mental, developmental or emotional well-being. Our certified hand therapist provides advanced knowledge to treat a variety of upper extremity and hand ailments.
The goal of OT is to make it easier for someone to function in everyday life. Our therapists might:
- Make splints to protect a surgical repair or improve range of motion
- Plan safe work tasks for someone with a back injury who is returning to a job
- Come up with strategies for someone who has trouble managing doing their activities of daily living through exercise and training to promote functional independence and return to the previous level of function
- Teach someone ways to conserve energy to improve ROM, strength, and endurance for optimal mobility and independence.
- Train in protection and prevention of joint overuse
Each of our fully licensed occupational therapists help patients set goals and develop a plan for reaching those goals. Therapists also evaluate a person's progress to see if changes in the plan are necessary.
Chiropractic Medicine
Watson Clinic is pleased to also offer Chiropractic Medicine to our patients as part of our Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine department. Chiropractic Medicine offers highly effective treatments for spinal pain and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system. To learn more, please click here.
