3D Mammography/Breast Tomosynthesis
Watson Clinic is pleased to be the first healthcare provider in Polk County to offer patients breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography. This technology is revolutionizing how breast cancer is detected today.
The American Cancer Society says that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, research is now indicating that the five-year survival rate is as high as 98 percent. Researchers have also found that that breast tomosynthesis combined with 2D mammography offers the following:
- Has a significantly higher cancer detection rate than conventional 2D mammography alone.
- Helps radiologists better visualize masses, distortions and asymmetric densities.
- Gives radiologists the confidence to significantly reduce recall rates.
- And patients tell us the ergonomic design of the new system helps deliver a more comfortable experience.
